Wall lights are of course practical things - but we think it’s time that wall lights got their moment to shine as proper statement pieces. Here are six designer dazzlers...
Wall lights can be overlooked in the scheme of things - relegated to the functional business of providing ambient light in a room while the pendants and chandeliers and fancy table lamps get to dazzle as statement pieces. But we think walls and recesses deserve some design love too, so our latest range of wall lights seeks to redress the balance. We’ve created a group of wall lights that are as unusual, striking and beautiful as our pendants and table lamps. Here are six of them…
Melville wall sconce
Now this isn’t your average wall sconce. The Melville is made of strips of mercurised glass, at differing heights, in a semi-circle. The ambient effect is glorious: a lovely soft warm light.
Medina wall light in punched brass
The Medina is big on design, elegantly etched in Moorish patterns. But as all wall lights should be, it’s practical too: the solid brass face and sides let the dappled light out as it sits flat on the wall. - Unfortunately the Medina is no longer available, but please take a look at our extensive range of wall lights here.
Starsky wall light
Strips of clear recycled blown glass strips individually hung on moulded hooks, draped in a semi-circle round the bulb like some gorgeous hula skirt. The Starsky is very contemporary and very different.
Skystar wall sconce
We think this is quite a special little number. The Skystar also makes use of clear recycled glass strips, but this time positioned in a staggered pattern in front of the bulb to create a contemporary sconce with an Art Deco feel.
Bow tie wall light
What makes this light sing is the shape of the hood. We fiddled around with it for what felt like an eternity, until the angle and the proportions felt just right. The floor lamp version is a midcentury-style beauty, but we think the Bow tie works just as well as a wall light. Comes in white or black, and it is quite large so decent wall space is required.
Jasmine wall light in antiqued brass
If beautiful simplicity is what you’re after, the Jasmine may be for you. But there’s more to it than might meet the eye. There are three ‘movements’, meaning you can point it more or less anywhere; the screw holes to attach it to the wall are covered by neatly etched caps; and the brass hood casts a soft, buttery and beautiful light. Will age beautifully.
