London-based studio Shanade McAllister-Fisher Interior Design is currently making a splash, creating some seriously smart and memorable spaces (some of them including a few Pooky lights!). We caught up with Shanade herself for a Q&A about all things interiors...
How did you come to be an interior designer?
I have always had a passion for design and love the way an interior can dictate the mood and atmosphere of any given space. I studied interior design at KLC School of Design and the rest is history!
How would you describe your interior design style?
At SMF Interior Design we are eclectic, layered and full of personality, I love to create spaces that reflect our clients personality and life style while having focal points of interest.

Where do you get your inspiration from?
Artwork plays a large part. It inspires colour pallets, tones, textures and moods.

How does lighting play a part in your interiors?
Lighting is so important! It’s such a valuable focal tool that allows me to draw the eye to where I want it to be in a space. I really enjoy playing with proportions in my interiors and oversized lighting is a great way of do this.

Which recent project are you particularly proud of?
I have recently completed a large family home in North London and there are some little touches that have won my heart. A large bespoke tea light candle chandelier suspended above an outdoor dining table in the pool area being one of them! Another project I am extremely pleased with included the sourcing and installation of a large piece of provocative, contemporary artwork that incorporates neon lighting – So at the flick of a switch it becomes a real showstopper!

Do you have a particular favourite cosy corner or room that you feel is 'all your own'? Or do you have any tips for creating a 'cosy' space?
Yes I have a little corner in my bedroom, which has a beautiful peacock chair, lots of layering and some soft up lighting. Making it the perfect place to take time out and curl up with a good book.

Finally we’ve got to ask you, what is your favourite Pooky light and why?
Easy! It’s the Starsky chandelier, I love its retro, glamour… very on trend and effortlessly cool.
