Double the dazzle: clever combos of mirrors and lights can turn even the gloomiest corner into a glowing delight…
Mirrors are one of the most magical tools in the interior design kit – and when you team them up with just the right lighting, the effect can be nothing short of transformational. Together, they can turn a gloomy corner into a glowing oasis, add visual space where there is none, and create atmosphere with a flourish.
Here’s our guide to pairing mirrors and lights to make your home feel lighter, brighter and altogether more fabulous…
Why are mirrors a big deal in interior design?
Mirrors do a lot more than help you check your hair. They bounce light around, boost brightness, and give the illusion of more space – especially handy in rooms that are small, narrow, or low on natural light.
A well-placed mirror can also highlight architectural features (hello, fireplace) and serve as a design statement in its own right, thanks to the huge variety of styles, frames, shapes and finishes available.

How can mirrors and lights work together?
Light loves a mirror. Placing a mirror near, behind or opposite a light source lets you make the most of every lumen, throwing light further into a room and evening out the overall glow. This simple trick can breathe life into awkward or dim spaces and give your interiors a sense of airiness and movement. It’s the optical illusion that keeps on giving.

Pairing mirrors and lights: ideas and inspiration
Not only is the mirror-light combo practical, it can also be drop-dead gorgeous. Here are some inspired ways to use mirrors and lighting together, featuring a few of our favourite Pooky pieces, naturally.
1) Make a grand statement

Go big, go bold. A large ornate mirror reflects maximum light and gives the impression of space and drama. Pair it with an equally dazzling chandelier for full effect.
The Vulpo bevelled mirror, above, with its antique gold frame and serious stature, looks sensational alongside a brass and glass chandelier. The result is instant elegance with a touch of grandeur.
2) Create a focal point above a fireplace
Fireplaces are natural focal points, so why not turn up the volume? Combine a standout mirror with a pendant or chandelier to draw the eye and create a dazzling centrepiece. The Zelda mirror in green grass, above, with its round frame of aged brass and stained glass segments, looks spectacular above the mantel when paired with a crystal ball chandelier – a match made in mirror-ball heaven.
3) Brighten up a bathroom

Bathrooms aren’t always blessed with natural light, but the right mirror and lighting setup can work wonders. Choose a mirror that mimics a window or brings architectural interest, and flank it with a pair of wall lights to give a soft, flattering glow.
The Daffings mirror in polished stainless steel, above, is flanked by a pair of elegant prismatic glass wall lights, giving off a sleek, Deco-inspired vibe – light, space and glamour in one neat package.
4) Open up a dark corner or narrow hallway

Small, shadowy spaces can be tricky, but mirrors and lamps are your secret weapon. Place a mirror behind a decorative table lamp or floor lamp to reflect the light and instantly double the brightness. It adds depth and warmth, turning an overlooked corner into a cosy nook.
The Circle Link mirror, above, with its geometric frame and porthole feel, works beautifully hung in multiples—especially when teamed with the Gingembre table lamp in blue and white ceramic for a pop of colour and personality.
At Pooky, we believe lighting and mirrors are a match made in interiors heaven. Browse our range of beautiful, affordable designer mirrors and let there be even more light.
