The clocks have gone back, the evenings are drawing in and it’s getting very chilly out there. Thoughts turn to hibernation and hot drinks on comfy sofas. Soft blankets, roaring fires - and of course, mood lighting. So where’s your favourite spot to hide away from the world? That special place in your home that’s all your own? In our ‘Meet the Interior Designer’ blogs, we’ve asked dozens of the UK’s top interiors experts to share their cosy corners. Here’s a selection for your inspiration...
Matthew Williamson - My bedroom (above)
'My favourite space in my London home is my bedroom. It’s a big space with high ceilings, great cornicing and Bay windows looking out to my garden. The room design is quite simple which I like for a bedroom as it keeps things calm. The walls are painted in Farrow and balls light blue and I have a wonderful dusty pink ostrich feather floor lamp in the corner to add a decadent, whimsical touch. 'I have a little corner in my bedroom, which has a beautiful peacock chair, lots of layering and some soft up lighting. Making it the perfect place to take time out and curl up with a good book.'

'This cosy corner is one of my favourites but I had to hand it back to my client! The Pooky table lamp perched at the end of sofa creates a perfect cosy corner for curling up and reading a book on a rainy afternoon.'

'My office in Norfolk. It is my haven, all the colours and fabrics I love – with under floor heating!'

Lucy Barlow’s courtyard (ok, maybe a bit chilly in winter)
‘My whole house has been designed with a cosy and welcoming feel in mind. I love collecting (I have an especial fondness for pineapples) and have lots of eclectic pieces living next to each other. I love every room in my house but at this time of year I have a little courtyard which I have designed as an exotic paradise, using a coral colour with a venetian paint effect on the walls and wide striped and palm patterned bench cushions, making it feel like a Moroccan Riad. It’s a leafy retreat from the world and the perfect place for cosy summer dinners and escaping from the world. It is my little oasis and I don’t feel like I’m in London when I am there.’

Willow Crossley’s office
'My office. Its pink and flowery and filled with my favourite photos and trinkets – the walls are covered with shells and Indian beaded fabrics. It looks like a bomb has gone off in it but I know exactly where everything is. I try and keep the boys out of there as much as I can but they seem to love it just as much and have started asking to do their homework in there now!'
Luke Edward Hall’s living room
At home in our living room we have a floor lamp from the 1970s – it’s a big steel arch with a marble cube base and an orange plastic shade at the other end – I love it because the light it creates is super warm and comforting – it’s the perfect spot to sit under with a book at the end of a long day. I can look out of the window from the sofa here and we have a very old house plant next to the lamp that’s kind of out of control – the leaves are intertwined with the steel arch. Plus the luminous orange shade looks nice with the green leaves and our pink walls. Good colour combinations always please me!
