We caught up with interior designer, Joanna Plant, about what inspires her and talk top tips for creating a beautiful interior.
Where do you get your inspiration from?
I am a real nosey parker and love getting the chance to have a look at peoples houses. It’s so lovely seeing things done well and always exciting going to a house that makes your heart beat a bit faster. I buy a lot of books about period houses to determine the detail of things like joinery and I am always inspired by vintage textiles which can kick start a decorative scheme.
How would you describe the style in your own home?
I like a very layered look so lots of pictures, textiles, comfortable sofas and things that look like they were inherited from your granny. Given that I live in a 30’s semi I might have illusions of grandeur! I find houses that look as though they have evolved over time and not like you have just had the decorators over, more interesting and pleasurable to spend time in.
What’s your favourite room in your house? Does lighting play a big part?
Definitely my bathroom - it is tiny and tucked into the eaves of my bedroom. It’s right in the tree tops and has lovely dappled light.
We believe mixing and matching colour and pattern can make for some stunning results – do you have any top tips on how to do this in the home?
Always throw something unexpected into a scheme - when everything is too ‘matchy’ a room can look very stiff and be as brave with pattern and colour as you can - you won’t regret it.

Finally we’ve got to ask you, what is your favourite Pooky light and why?
I am a huge fan of the hexi wall light which is very smart. I would use it in a kitchen over the work tops or as a reading light either side of a bed.
